Our Philosophy Statement
Blessings All Ways Pty Ltd is committed to providing a high-quality education and service that meets the needs of the community, families and children in a home-based environment.
We recognise that children have a right of choice, freedom of belief and are capable and confident learners. We use the Maria Montessori approach that advocates for a child-centred environment that allows children to extend their own learning, supports their agency and takes their play in the direction of their choice which can only lead to better outcomes.
“The environment must be rich in motives that lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences” ―Maria Montessori
It is essential to support and nurture the whole child focusing on their identity, connection with community, wellbeing, confidence as learners and effectiveness as communicators. At our service, we implement Vygotsky’s social-cultural theory that vouches for the role of social interaction in learning and emphasizes creating collaborative learning opportunities where children work together, express their ideas, listen to others, observe their peers, and learn from them.
Our philosophy is also vouched by Piaget’s theory of cognitive development which also emphasises on providing children with a variety of play based opportunities based on children’s interests and strengths in a safe, secure and supportive environment for their active exploration and interaction with the environment (Nolan 2015).
Our philosophy is guided by the Code of Ethics 2016 and based on the principles of National Quality Frameworks (NQF) of equity, inclusion, and diversity which involve mutual respect, trust, open communication, and shared decision-making in all of our practices, interactions and relationships.
We believe children have a right to feel safe, secure, supported and to be acknowledged for their individuality and agency that enable them to develop to the best of their potential in all areas of development (Early Childhood Australia 2014).
We have policies, procedures and processes in place with an aim to keep children and young people safe, prevent and respond to abuse. We encourage children to ‘have a say’, especially on issues that are important to them or about decisions that affect their lives. We understand our roles and responsibilities towards protecting all children from harm. We have a risk-based approach to effectively manage the health, safety and the wellbeing of children in our care. In all decisions, actions and responses of the service, the safety, rights and best interests of children are the paramount consideration.
We provide a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment to children and their family members and actively promote building strong relationships with our families, Educators, staff and families as this creates a wonderful sense of belonging which is vital to the learning environment of our children.
We encourage taking a wide view of the world, our people, our country and its cultural diversity, whilst ensuring the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
We believe that we all continue to grow and develop and are constantly evolving even as adults. We are always striving for ways of improving our service and aim to achieve this through the ongoing process of reflection, review with the collaboration of both staff and families, training and continue evaluation of our service and our Policies and Procedures.
“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavour to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.” ― Maria Montessori
